I think we can put our collegiate differences aside if, for nothing else, because I really don't buy into it; I barely follow the football program, and all other collegiate sports are non-existent to me. Furthermore, I was raised in a very "tolerant" household, as my dad and I followed both ISU and Iowa equally; I only went to Iowa since Iowa's foreign language program is superior and, if I am not mistaken, the only school in the state out of "the big three" (if I may call UNI, ISU and Iowa that) with a PhD in Spanish linguistics.

The problem with Newsvine is that I get too emotional. My wife comes home everyday and asks me, "why do you read that stuff?," because it just upsets me so much. I applaud you and your crusade for civil rights. My problem is that I tire too easily. I can only read so much hate and ignorance until my head feels like it'll burst, and I simply must walk away.

Thank you very much for your valiant effort on the 'pedophile act' column; I fear, however, that our efforts are fruitless. There is no reasoning with some of these people, so I have stopped tracking that topic and I am moving on with my life. Godspeed if you continue to post there.

Furthermore, this is quite a small world in which we live... I just graduated this year (2009) with an MA in Spanish linguistics at the University of Iowa... I guess that means, while politically ideological buddies, we are, at heart, rivals. ;)
